MONUMENT COMMEMORATING TOKUGAWA CLAN MILITARY STRATEGIES
This stone monument carries an inscription from a book of battle strategies (gunsho-gokan) which was compiled by Tokugawa Yoshinao the ninth son of Tokugawa Ieyasu and the head of the Owari clan.
The book contained various battle strategies of the Tokugawa family and it was handed down from generation to generation. The inscription on the stone is unique because it reflects a political philosophy of following the Emperor. Although the Tokugawa family ruled Japan at that time, at the beginning of the Meiji Restoration, they declared that they would follow the Emperor according to this philosophy.
